Instrumentals I've composed are :
Calisto - I named this piece after one of Jupiter's
moons. I found out afterwards it's actually spelt 'Callisto'. Callisto
is the second
largest of Jupiter's moons.
The Charon Classic - my son came up with this name
and I think it's great. Charon is Pluto's main moon. It's also the name
of the
ferryman of Hades in Greek mythology.
Dreamburst - this aptly describes this song which is full of bursts of sound and has a dream-like quality.
Menace on Icarus - Icarus is a character in Greek
mythology. However, in my piece I imagine Icarus to be a planet which
holds a
secret menace. This dramatic piece is suitable as a sound track for a movie.
Nights on Io - Io (pronounced eye-oh) is one of
Jupiter's moons, very volcanic and tempestuous, pulled and pushed by
Jupiter's
immense gravitational forces. It is sulphurous and
full of lava flows and is the most geologically active object in the
Solar System.
This piece is played
on the piano in 'organ/piano' setting and is tempestuous like the moon.
Resolution - this piece traces a path of something
being resolved. In the beginning the D chords end up in minor chords
like D min
dim.7th, G minor and B flat min, rebuffed. Later they
break through and triumphantly stay in D major, going higher and
higher. Near
the end they revert to minor chords, but
then resolve themselves into the major passages in the final part.
Vivalzart Transition - this has a style akin to
Vivaldi and Mozart; hence the combined name. This is intended to be a
happy and
carefree piece with a theme of breakthrough and celebration.
Europa - returning to the space theme, this piece is
named after the sixth moon of Jupiter. It has a fairly smooth icy
surface.
The Double Song - this name was also coined by our
son and refers to the fast repeated note sequences. It's an energetic
lively
European-style piece.
Memorial - this is dedicated to all who have made sacrifices and shown bravery in the face of hardship and in times of
suffering. It
was inspired by the tragedy of the 911 attacks, but
applies equally to the bravery and sacrifice shown by people in wars
and natural
disasters.
(the above all composed in 2002 or earlier and recorded at home in 2002, then at Gemsound Studio in 2006)
